Discover Syracuse's's ancient history and the main Greek and Roman monuments with our shared group tour. You will meet the guide and the other participants at the entrance gate to the Neapolis park (entrance tickets not included, please buy before you arrive at the meeting point). The walking tour lasts about 1h30m and the explanation is in English language. During the tour you will visit the Greek theatre, cut in the rock of the Temenite hill. It's the largest in Italy and among the largest in the Mediterranean area. The guide will tell you about the archaeological highlights and about the ancient tragedies. From the theatre's terrace it's possible to see the great harbour of Syracuse and the impressive nympheum fountain. You will then walk to the latomia del Paradiso, an ancient stone quarry also used as prison. Here you will visit theEar of Dionysius, a legendary grotto, famous for its acoustics and for the legend of the tyrant Dionysius. The tour continues with the visit of the grotta dei cordari and then the altar of Hieron, the largest stone altar built in the Greek world. The guided tour will end at the Roman amphitheatre where your guide will tell you about the differences with the Greek theatre and about the gladiators and their fights.

The admission fee to the Neapolis park is not included in the tour. Tickets must be purchased before the starting of the tour. Due to the anti-Covid guidelines only limited visitors are allowed per hour therefore and to avoid waiting times at the ticket office we recommend to purchase the tickets online on the official website of the Sicilian Region. During the booking process of our tour we also offer the option to include the tickets in the booking. Choosing this option we will purchase the tickets in advance for your. Passport information are required for reduced and free tickets. The cost of the full ticket is € 16.50, reduced € 10 (EU citizen 18-25 years), free under 18 years.
To guarantee social distancing, during the tour you will receive a radioguide receiver with no additional costs. So it will be possible to listen to the live explanation of the guide also when moving around.
Please bring your own earphones (e.g. your smarthphone earphones) for the radioguide. Otherwise it's also possible to request single use earphones at the special price of 1 €, during the booking process or directly to the guide.
During the summer months the Neapolis archaeological park usually opens also at night is some dates. Beside the standard tours we will also run night tours. During the night walking tours it will be possible to admire the Ear of Dionysius, the stone quarry, the Greek theatre (partial view) and the Roman amphitheater with an enchanting illumination and milder temperatures. The night itinerary is shorter (duration about 1h) and also the participation fee is reduced. At present the night openings for summer 2021 were not published but we will update soon our calendar with the special tours days.
Cancelling the booking within 48 hours before the tour no cancellation fee is required and you will be full refund. Cancelling between 24 and 48 hours prior the starting time of the tour, 50% of the cost will be retained as cancellation fee. No refund is possible cancelling less than 24 hours prior the starting time or in case of 'no show'. The tours run will all weather conditions, rain or shine.
