Pantalica and Anapo valley

Pantalica archaeological tour

The rocky necropolis of Pantalica is located in the province of Syracuse, in eastern Sicily, between the two small towns of Sortino and Ferla. It is an archaelogical site and a nature reserve. Pantalica is also an Unesco world heritage, famous for its over 6000 prehistoric tombs, dug in the overhanging walls of the Anapo river canyon. It's not easy to arrive to Pantalica because the site is located on a plateau surroundend by two canyons but this raises the fascination of this site. The tours offered by our professional guides will let you discover the hidden corners of this impressive area. Our main archaeological tour starts few miles from Ferla, at the Filiporto necropolis, With an easy hike it's possible to visit the ruins of a medieval village and oratory and arrive to the 'Anaktoron' or palace of the prince: the fundaments of a prehistoric megalithic building. This is a half-day tour. On request we can offer tailor-made options, e.g. full-day trekkings including the Anapo Valley nature reserve and Pantalica. For small private groups it's also possible to arrange a minibus transfer with departure from Syracuse.

Main Itinerary

  • Filiporto necropolis
  • The Byzantine village
  • San Micidiario oratory
  • North-east necropolis
  • Anaktoron
  • (optional) break at the Calcinara creek
