Mini Tour  "MONTALBANO and BAROQUE"

Who doesn't like the "Commissario Montalbano", the original Sicilian detective, born from the imagination of the author Andrea Camilleri ?

Who didn't dream once to visit the wonderful places where Montalbano lives ? Places where it is possible to find an unique union of tradition, art and nature.

During summer 2008, Hermes Archaeology and Tourism gives you the possibility to  discover these places with the mini tour "Montalbano and Baroque", which will cross the most suggestive places of the province of Ragusa, following the line of Montalbano's stories.

The tour starts from Syracuse by minibus and reaches the province of Ragusa to explore the area during a whole day. An authorized tourist guide will be with the visitors during the whole trip giving informations about history, monuments and telling traditions and curiosities about Sicily and giving the ideal union between "real" places and fantasy "world" of Montalbano's stories. The first stop will be the Castle of Donnafugata alias the villa of the mafia boss Balduccio Sinagra in the serial. It is a luxury country villa of the Sicilian aristocracy of the XIX century with a beautiful park with a lot of exotic plants.
After the visit at the castle, the tour will continue going to the little sea-village  Punta Secca.  There, the fans of the serial will recognize the village of Marinella and the house of Montalbano along the seaside.
The tour will continue reaching Marina di Ragusa, a little town with a long and beautiful beach. There we will take a free lunch break and it will be possible to take a bath.
In the afternoon the tour will go to Ragusa, alias Vigata for Montalbano's fans. There we will visit Ibla the wonderful historical centre in baroque style, Unesco world heritage. Roads and squares of Ibla were often used as location for the tv serial. Here reality and fiction will cross. We will walk near the Circolo di Conversazione of Ragusa Ibla and reach the Osteria Don Calogero, Montalbano's favourite restaurant. The tour will end after visiting the Giardini Iblei, the nice public park of Ibla. Return to Syracuse will be in the late afternoon.
The tour will be weekly. It will start every Tuesday morning from Syracuse. The cost is  € 39 per person. Free forward booking is necessary.
 

 

I T I N E R A R Y   and  D E T A I L S       [up]

The "Montalbano and Baroque" Mini Tour will take place every TUESDAY  starting from SYRACUSE ( Molo San Antonio parking - harbour) by minibus. The tour will take place at a minimum of 12 participants and will be in Italian, English and German language.

Costs

The tour price is € 39 . It includes the bus transfer and the guided visits. It doesn't include the ticket for the Donnafugata Castle (full price € 5) and everything not specified in this program.  Free forward booking online or by phone is necessary.

The tours will take place during the months of JULY, AUGUST and SEPTEMBER:

- 15 July - 22 July - 29 July

 - 5 August - 12 August - 19 August - 26 August

 - 2 September  -  9 September -  16 September -  23 September -  30 September

Program

- Depature from Syracuse to the province of Ragusa by minibus with onboard English language tourist guide

- Guided visit at the Castle of Donnafugata (set of the villa of the mafia boss Balduccio Sinagra) and its park (photo)

- Transfer to Punta Secca and little walk on the beach with view of the exteriors of Montalbano's house [photo]

- Transfer to Marina di Ragusa, free time for lunch and optional bathing

- Transfer to Ragusa and guided tour of Ibla, the baroque historical centre, Unesco world heritage and set of the town of  Vigata in Montalbano's stories [photo]

- Return to Syracuse in the late afternoon
