Eloro was one of the subcolonies founded by Syracuse to control its border. The archaeological site is located just behind the wonderful beaches of south-eastern Sicily. Kasmene was a citadel of the ancient Greek town Syracuse, isolated on a hill in the hinterland on the highest point of today's province of Syracuse. Kaukana was an ancient Byzanthine port on the southern coast of Sicily. Archaeological excavations set free the remains of the settlement mentioned by the historian Procopio di Cesarea. Summer months: in the period between mid June and mid September there are extreme temperatures in Sicily with often about 35-40°C (95-105° F) during the day. Our private tours are bookable at your preferred starting time but during the summer months we suggest to book our guides for the afteroon, few hours before sunset.
