Ortigia, Siracusa Free Walking Tour


The Ortygia Free Walking Tour is our Siracusa welcome tour. It is FREE, no tariff is applied or asked. Our professional guides work on a tip only basis and their motivation and your generosity will allow to continue these services.
During the summer months we offer this tour once a week.

Our free tours are organized only during the summer months (July and August), during the rest of the year, please, have a look at our private tours

    Every Monday at 5:30 pm (from June 17 to September 9, 2019)

  • Where:

    we will visit Ortygia, the old town center of Syracuse. Meeting point will be at our infodesk

  • How:

    Pre-booking is essential for us to arrange the tour. Please send us a mail with participant names and a reference phone number.

  • Duration:

    about 1h30m

  • Language:

    only in English language
The free tour can be joined by individual tourists, families or small groups of friends up to max 9 participants. If your group is larger or you are a travel agency, please contact us for a private tour.




Ortigia walking tour overview

Join our free walking tour and discover the enchanting island of Ortigia, the old town center of Siracusa. Follow our guide through the narrow streets and learn about the history and the monuments of the town. During the tour you will see remains of the ancient Greek town, baroque churches and picturesque hidden corners. Highlights of Ortigia are the cathedral square with its church built over an ancient Greek temple and the beautiful promenade with its panorama over the sea and the natural bay of the town. After the tour our guide will be happy to give you advices on what else to visit or general information about public transport, eating and shopping options

Tour details

The tour lasts about 1h30m and a licensed English-speaking local guide will lead you. The scheduled visits take place with every weather condition, so, if it's rainy, bring an umbrella with you. This is a donation-only tour, at the end, feel free to leave your guide the amount you feel the tour was worth

Booking

Pre-booking is essential for us to arrange the tours, so, please, book the tour at least 1 day before the scheduled date. Use the form below, specifying your name, mail, mobile phone number and how many people you are.

Note: once registered you will receive a confirmation mail. We usually don't contact our guests by phone or mail, these information are required in the rare case of tour cancellation/starting time variation

Meeting point

The meeting point for our free Siracusa/Ortigia walking tours is beside the ruins of the Apollo temple, at the entrance of the island. Our guide will meet you on the right side, near the small water fountain. The guide will wear an id-badge, please be there on time.

Hermes Sicily is a group of professional tour guides based in Siracusa, in south-eastern Sicily. We offer guided visits, in various languages, to the most interesting towns and archaeological sites of the provinces of Syracuse and Ragusa. During the Christmas period and in July and August we also organize a program of shared group tours.
