Ortygia and Maniace at sunset

This shared group tour takes place in the late afternoon to enjoy Syracuse's sights in the golden colors of the sunset and to avoid the extreme hot summer temperatures in Sicily during the day. Ortygia offers incredible sunsets in the beautiful panorama of its bay. The Ortygia and Castle Maniace tour lasts about 2 hours and is in English language. Meeting point with your guide and the other participants is at the entrance of Ortygia. The walking tour starts at the ancient Apollo temple, it's the most ancient temple built by Greeks in Sicily. Walking along the colorful Corso Matteotti you will arrive at Archimedes square with the neoclassical Diana fountain. Strolling through the picturesque narrow streets you will arrive at piazza Duomo, the cathedral square. Our guide will tell you about the highlighs of this baroque square and about the main buildings: the cathedral (only exteriors), palazzo Vermexio, St. Lucy's church and the archbishop's palace. The itinerary continues reaching the cape of Ortygia and the Maniace castle. The tour comprehenses the visit of the interiors of this medieval fortess, built by the emperor Frederick II and you will discover the impressive columns' hall and the fortress built by the Bourbons. In the light of dusk the walk continues along the sea promenade arriving to the Aretusa fountain a legendary place in Syracuse. The guide will tell you about the myth of Alpheus and Aretusa and the you will have a walk along the 'marina', among the prefered summer meeting points by locals. Ancient ficus trees adorn the Spanish fortifications until the porta marina gate, end point of the tour.

confirmation_number Admission fee to the Maniace castle

The admission fee to the Maniace castle is not included in the tour. Tickets must be purchased by the participants at the entrance of the fortress.
The cost of the full ticket is € 4, reduced € 2 (EU citizen 18-25 years), free under 18 years. For special exhibitions at the castle the admission fee is € 8 and reduced € 4.

In case of large groups you will receive a radioguide receiver with no additional costs. So it will be possible to listen to the live explanation of the guide also when moving around.
If possible please bring your own earphones (e.g. your smarthphone earphones) for the radioguide.

replay Cancellation policy

Cancelling the booking within 48 hours before the tour no cancellation fee is required and you will be full refund. Cancelling between 24 and 48 hours prior the starting time of the tour, 50% of the cost will be retained as cancellation fee. No refund is possible cancelling less than 24 hours prior the starting time or in case of 'no show'. The tours run will all weather conditions, rain or shine.
